Honoring Our Heroes
September 18th, 2023
On September 11th, our nation honors and remembers those who were lost in the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and Flight 93. This year, The Landings of Westerville had a very special person to honor on September 11th; one of our beloved residents, Gloria, is a 9/11 survivor.
Gloria, who is 67 and has resided at The Landings of Westerville since February 2023, worked on the 25th floor of one of the Twin Towers. She tells us that how she survived that day was thanks to, believe it or not, a cigarette – she was outside of the towers on a smoke break when the planes struck. Gloria loves to tease her daughter that it was a cigarette that saved her!
This year, The Landings of Westerville honored the events of 9/11, those impacted, and our own survivor Gloria by holding a special ceremony. Residents and staff gathered together in our beautiful Lobby to honor Gloria and her daughter with a gift basket containing her favorite snacks, a “Hope” decorative plaque, and Gloria’s favorite accessory, a warm fluffy blanket for the fall! Gloria and her daughter shared her story with the group, and residents and staff all shared their own memories of that day. After sharing memories, the group watched a brief documentary about that day together. It was truly special to bond together as our residents shared their memories of that day with one another.
At The Landings of Westerville, we are honored to care for people from all over the nation and the world, all of whom have lived unique lives. We are so thankful to have Gloria and all of her smiles and laughter with us now, and we are honored to have her share her story!
